Mission Statement
The Compost Education Program supports the goals of the Solid Waste Management Division to divert compostable materials from the waste stream and thereby maximize waste reduction in Tompkins County. This is achieved by training and supporting community volunteers to educate and enthuse the public about the benefits and methods of composting. Master Composters are an enthusiastic group of volunteers who educate the public about, and instill enthusiasm for, composting. Volunteers teach free public classes or workshops for interested groups, maintain public demonstration sites and provide information at community events around the County. Volunteers also offer troubleshooting and technical assistance to composters in the community.
